Tactile feedback--one of the most important skills in race driving is a sensitivity to the various vibrations of the car and what they mean. A discerning driver can sense small differences in vibrations felt in his hands from the steering wheel, from his feet while on the pedals, and in his legs, buttocks, and back from the seat. These vibrations can tell the driver when the tires are at their limit, when the brakes are just about to lock up, and other aspects of the car's performance. Proper seating position and steering wheel grip are critical to providing the driver with as much of this input as possible.
